Looking for a simple center that your students will love? Try read around the room. Students use a teacher's pointer to point to words, letters, or numbers from around the room. In our classroom we practice reading nursery rhyme posters, sight words, colors, months, etc. My kindergarten students love this activity so much that they often ask to use the pointer during indoor recess time.
* tip: Practice reading words, months, colors, letters, posters, shared writing, etc. The more often students see the teacher read with the pointer in class, the more familiar they will be with finding things to read during this activity.
